Well gang, first let me apologize for a year of not updating the website! But fear not! I am not dead! I've just been a shade busy. Over the past couple of years I have been working as a teaching pastor here in Birmingham in addition to my traveling road ministry. Over that time my responsibilities have grown and I am happy to report that in January 2013 Double Oak Community Church called me to be their Senior Pastor. I am unbelievably thrilled and humbled by this honor.

So what does this mean for you? A few things.

1) I'm still be doing some events. Although I will not be traveling as much in the future the church still wants me to have the opportunity to travel periodically so I will still be doing some events each year including a few camps. If you're interested in having me in please contact me. But do so quickly as I will only have a few open dates!

2) A lot more podcasts! Now that I am preaching weekly at Double Oak I have a lot more new sermons for you to hear. We also have a system where the new sermons are up within the hour after we're done each Sunday. So by subscribing to the Double Oak Community Church podcast you can have more podcasts more consistently than I've ever been able to provide. And it's free!

3) A place to belong. If you're in the Birmingham area and looking for a church home or are passing through and need a place to worship on a Sunday, we've got a place for you! Our community is Christ centered, welcoming, and community focused.

take the challenge

Last summer I made it a point to ask how many people in the crowd had been saved for three years or longer. I then asked those people who responded if they had read the New Testament all the way through. I'm sad to say that on average only about 10-20% of those people said that they had. In a country where our literacy rate is high and we all have easy access to a Bible in multiple translations this is a staggering discovery. So I challenged that crowd to read the New Testament over the next three months. Maybe you took that challenge. Maybe you want to start. If so I wanted to provide you with some resources to help you. Click here for some help getting started or restarting your journey through the Bible.

At long last our latest Journey project is here. We've been wanting to jump into the Old Testament for a while now and with Volume 6 we finally have accomplished that goal. Most of us remember Jonah as that guy on a felt board in Vacation Bible School who gets swallowed by a whale. But there's a whole lot more going on in this prophet's life than his problems with marine animals. Jonah is a story for anyone who has wrestled with running away from God. It tackles love for outsiders, what to do when we don't want to follow God, and the unbelievable depths of God's love for us. If you've never heard a Journey project before this is a great place to start. And if you've been a faithful follower of the Journey over the years you'll definitely want to add this to your collection. They're getting better and better. Check it out in the store now!
